Tegernsee Hut

The Tegernsee Hut (1650m) is called the Eagle’s Nest in almost every guidebook – and not without reason.

Due to its exposed position on the ridge between Roßstein (1698m) and Buchstein (1701m), it lives up to its name. The best thing is that this postcard motif is not only reserved for experienced climbers. We can also get to the summit of the Buchstein from the north or south, relatively easily and well secured with steel ropes, and to the Tegernseer Hütte, open from May to early November.

For the optional ascent of the Buchstein, easy climbing skills and a head for heights are required.

Overview

The Tegernseer Hütte is impressively enthroned at a lofty height between the Roßstein and the Buchstein. The hut is perhaps the most spectacular refuge in the Bavarian Pre-Alps and is accordingly popular as a destination for a hike.
The shortest way up to the Tegernseer Hütte starts at the hikers’ car park near Bayerwald. From the car park you can reach the hut via the Sonnbergalm (1485 m) in 2 ¼ hours. The Sonnbergalm is managed during the grazing season and offers a first refreshment before the final spurt towards the Tegernseer Hütte. Another way to get up to the hut is from the Winterstube car park through the Schwarzenbachtal valley and via the Buchsteinhütte (1260 m). Here you have to reckon with a walking time of 3 hours.

If you would like to visit the Tegernsee hut by mountain bike, the bike tour from Fleck via the Röhrlmoosalm (1097 m) to the Roßsteinalm (1480 m) is suitable. From the Roßsteinalm, the tour continues on foot to the Tegernseer Hütte. The summit of the Roßstein (1697 m) and the Buchstein (1701 m) can be reached in 10 and 20 minutes respectively. The rocky Buchstein is the more demanding of the two peaks and requires surefootedness and a head for heights. From the popular west ridge on the Roßsteinnadel (3+) to routes in the 9th degree of difficulty, climbers will find a rich field of activity.
