- Start in Hammersbach, a charming alpine village near Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
- Hike through the Höllentalklamm, a wild and spectacular gorge with roaring waterfalls, tunnels, and narrow paths carved through the rock.
- Take a well-deserved break with coffee or refreshments at the cozy Höllentaleingangshütte, right at the mouth of the gorge.
- Continue the scenic trail through alpine forests and panoramic viewpoints as we make our way to Eibsee, one of Germany’s most beautiful lakes.

- After lunch, take a peaceful loop walk around Eibsee, with the Zugspitze – Germany’s highest peak – reflected in the water.

Directions for the hike to Eibsee Germany
By public transport:
1. Train + Zugspitzbahn (cog railway)
From Munich: Take a regional DB train (RE or RB) to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (~1.5 h, hourly departures)
Transfer in Garmisch: Change to the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn (RB64), which runs hourly directly to Hammersbach (request stop—press the button after Kreuzeck/Alpspitzbahn) First trains depart around 07:30 AM; e.g., 08:33, 09:33, 10:33 etc. on weekends
2. Train + Eibsee‑Bus (Bus line 9840 or Eibseebus)
Take the same regional train from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
From Garmisch station or central bus stop, catch Bus 9840 (also called Eibseebus) directly to Hammersbach, with departures every ~30 minutes from 06:30 AM through 22:00 PM
By car:
GPS: Hammersbach 1, 82491 Grainau
Driving to Hammersbach from Munich
Take the A95 motorway from Munich toward Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Near Eschenlohe, the A95 ends and continues as B2 toward Garmisch.
Drive through Garmisch-Partenkirchen, then follow signs to Grainau.
Just before reaching Grainau, turn off at Hammersbach (well signposted, near the Kreuzeck/Alpspitzbahn cable car).
Parking in Hammersbach: There’s a large hikers’ parking lot near the trailhead: Parkplatz Hammersbach / Höllentalklamm
