We start in Hohenschwangau and ascend Mount Tegelberg, enjoying panoramic views of the Ammergau Alps and the royal countryside. After reaching the summit at Tegelbergkopf, we’ll take a well-deserved break and enjoy a hearty meal at the Tegelberghaus, a traditional mountain hut with spectacular alpine views.
Re-energized, we continue our descent via the scenic trail that leads to the famous Marienbrücke (Mary’s Bridge), offering stunning views of the world-renowned Neuschwanstein Castle — a true symbol of Germany.
We’ll end the hike back in Hohenschwangau with time to explore the castle surroundings or take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters of Alpsee.

Equipment Information for the Hike to Neuschwanstein Castle
Mandatory:
- Mountain shoes (above the ankle / categories A/B, B, B/C);
- Hiking socks;
- Hiking clothes;
- Rain clothes according to the latest weather forecast;
- Sun hat for sun protection;
- Lightweight backpack (approx. 30-35 liters);
- Cereal bars;
- Water bottle, approx. 1.5–2 liters;
Optional:
- Hiking poles;
- Sun screen, sun glasses;
- Blister plasters;
- First aid kit.

Directions for the Hike to Neuschwanstein Castle:
By public transport:
Train station near start point: Füssen (3.7 Km from start point). From Füssen, you can reach Neuschwanstein by bus (bus stop “Hohenschwangau Neuschwanstein Castles, Schwangau” – 60 m from the start point).
Via the A7 motorway (Ulm – Kempten – Füssen) to the end of the highway. From Füssen, take the B17 towards Schwangau. After the town ends, turn right towards Hohenschwangau.
or
via the A7 motorway – Kempten exit – onto the B12 main road to Marktoberdorf. Via the B16 to Roßhaupten – OAL I to Buching – then B17 to Schwangau and Hohenschwangau.
In the village of Hohenschwangau there is only private parking available for a fee.
