Hiking to the Watzmann Hocheck
This alpine hike begins at Wimbachbrücke and leads steadily uphill to the Watzmannhaus, where we spend the night surrounded by mountain views.
After a restful evening in the hut, day two takes us to the rocky summit of Watzmann Hocheck (2,651 m), the first of the Watzmann peaks.
The climb is steep and exposed in parts, but offers breathtaking views over Berchtesgaden and the Königssee.
After taking in the summit panorama, we return safely to the starting point— proud and full of alpine memories.

Overview for the hike to Watzmann Hocheck
This two-day hike offers one of the most iconic alpine experiences in the Berchtesgaden Alps.
We begin our journey at the Wimbachbrücke trailhead in Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden, following a well-marked path through forest and alpine meadows.
As we gain elevation, after approximately 3 to 4 hours of steady ascent, we reach the Watzmannhaus (1,930 m), where we’ll spend the night.
The hut offers cozy accommodations, hearty food, and a fantastic terrace to watch the sunset over the mountains.
After a good night’s rest, we set off early the next morning toward Watzmann Hocheck (2,651 m). The trail becomes more rugged and exposed as we climb the final 700 meters in elevation. This section requires good fitness, sure-footedness, and a head for heights, but no technical climbing.
Once at the summit, we’re rewarded with panoramic views of the Königssee, the Hochkalter range, and—on clear days—even the Großglockner in the distance.
After enjoying the summit, we carefully descend back to Watzmannhaus for a short break before continuing down to the valley via the same route.
By mid to late afternoon, we return to our starting point at Wimbachbrücke—having completed an unforgettable journey through one of the most beautiful corners of the German Alps.
This tour is ideal for experienced hikers looking for a physical challenge and a classic alpine overnight experience.
Please note: the cost of accommodation and meals at Watzmannhaus is not included in the tour price.
